Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Boca Helping Hands partners with accredited The CDL School, Inc. in South Florida to train students to earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License or a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger & School Bus endorsements. The Class A CDL Job Placement Program provides students with a 192-hour master program to drive truck-tractors, semi-trailers or trucks, and trailers to gain entry level employment. The Class B CDL Job Placement Program provides students with a total of 64 hours of training on skills and road exercises and is designed to guide students through the final steps of their training and into the workforce, which includes positions in passenger transport, schools bus driving, transit operations, and other Class B roles.
Additional financial assistance can be considered for students entering this program (e.g., help with transportation, temporary accommodation, childcare, rent etc.)
Prior to applying, please ensure that you have a valid Class A Temporary Permit and possess a DOT Physical Card.
Requirements:
+ Are 21 years of age or older
+ Have a high school diploma or GED (in English)
+ Have a valid driver’s license and Social Security Card
+ Provide the last 3 months of bank statements to establish financial need
+ Have strong English language skills
+ Have reliable transportation
+ Pass Level 1 background screening check
+ Possess a Class A Temporary Permit
+ Possess a DOT Physical Card
+ IRS Tax Return for the last filing year for all adult members of the household
Phase One: One week of Job Readiness taught virtually via Zoom. Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Phase Two: Choose between the following:
The Class A Commercial Driver’s License (Job Placement) course provides students with the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations setting the baseline for the required training requirements for entry-level drivers prior to beginning vehicle training. ELDT training is offered virtually in the daytime or evening. Vehicle training is held in the Miami or Fort Pierce locations for two weeks, Monday to Saturday from 7:30am – 6:30pm. Following successful completion of the final driving exam, students will be eligible to upgrade their license to the Class A license. Program graduates are provided with various job leads and assistance with job placement is offered upon graduation.
OR
The Class B CDL Phase 2 program is designed to guide students through the final steps of their training and into the workforce. This phase includes both Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) and hands-on vehicle training, with flexible scheduling to accommodate diverse student needs. Training is held Monday to Saturday with options during the day (1:00pm - 5:00pm) or evening (5:30pm - 9:30pm) with additional options on Saturdays. ELDT coursework is delivered virtually, with options for day or evening sessions. Vehicle training is conducted at designated locations, with flexible scheduling to match student availability. Upon successful completion of the final driving exam, students will be eligible to obtain their Class B CDL.
Phase Three: Graduates work with BHH Job Mentors to update/create resumes, practice mock interviews, and learn how to navigate employment sites for open positions.
Please note that all phases are mandatory for successful completion of the program.
