After working in the healthcare industry for over 20 years, Shasta C. was looking to advance her career but needed additional education and certifications to do so. Shasta had first gotten her foot in the door working in a doctor’s office as a medical assistant before assuming other positions like front desk assistant and, eventually, patient care assistant in a hospital after earning her CNA.

“My passion is helping others first,” Shasta said. “I’ve always been the one to help family and friends with their medical bills and information.” She found that many patients didn’t understand how insurance billing was handled and enjoyed being able to walk them through it.

Shasta saw an online ad for Boca Helping Hands’ Medical Billing and Coding (MBC) program, and felt the program, along with her background in the industry, would help her make the leap to a higher-paying job.

“The opportunity the MBC program offers is life changing,” she said. “Completing this program will help open doors for career advancements, flexibility to work from home, and eventually entrepreneurship. The benefits will no doubt help me and my family.”

The BHH Job Training Program (JTP), starts out with a week-long Professional and Personal Skills Development segment (Phase One) that helps build the students’ confidence and resumes. Upon completion, the student begins Phase Two, where they begin classes in their respective fields. The MBC program trains students to work in the rapidly growing healthcare industry through a combination of both clinical and administrative training. Students study under a Certified Professional Coder who provides them with the tools to gain the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification over a nine-month period.

Shasta looks forward to starting Phase Two this month and then gaining certification to work in this high-demand healthcare profession.
