Position Overview

The Grants Manager & Development Associate is a hybrid role responsible for managing the organization’s institutional funding pipeline while providing dedicated support to broader development initiatives. In this capacity, the individual manages the full lifecycle of grant research, writing, and reporting, while serving as a key execution partner for the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) on fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship. This role requires a blend of high-level technical writing and the ability to support the tactical execution of the organization's fundraising goals.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:


Grants & Institutional Fundraising

  • Research, identify, and qualify new funding opportunities by aligning BHH’s strategic initiatives with funder priorities.
  • Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of grant proposals and letters of intent to private foundations, corporate giving programs, and government entities.
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including a rigorous grants calendar, submission tracking, and post-award reporting to ensure donor compliance and high retention.
  • Partner with Program and Finance leadership to collect the data and financial outcomes metrics necessary to create compelling narratives and "proof-of-impact" reports.


Development & Campaign Support

  • Support the Advancement team in the tactical execution of annual appeals, major gift initiatives, and capital campaigns as directed by the CAO.
  • Provide technical and narrative content to the Marketing and Communications team for digital appeals, social media solicitations, and donor-facing collateral.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the donor database (CRM) to track major gift prospects and support the donor cultivation and solicitation cycle.
  • Assist in the creation of impact reports and stewardship touchpoints to maintain engagement among donors and corporate partners.
  • Represent the organization at community events and partner engagements as needed to help broaden the BHH network of support.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of the development lifecycle and how grants integrate into a diversified fundraising strategy.
  • Superior writing and editing skills with the ability to create emotional, high-conversion narratives for varied donor audiences.
  • Organizational agility to pivot between independent grant management and collaborative development support.
  • Proficiency in donor management systems (CRM) and Microsoft Office for the purposes of reporting and pipeline management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising with a focus on grant writing and development support.
  • Proven ability to manage grant workflows and support multi-channel fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience contributing to the execution of advancement activities and donor stewardship.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position to perform extensive grant writing, research, and data analysis. The role also requires the ability to move throughout the facility to access files, meet with program staff, and coordinate development activities.
  • Constantly communicates with internal leadership, board members, and external funders; must be able to exchange accurate and persuasive information. Requires the ability to view, prepare, and analyze digital and printed data for extended periods.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a keyboard, mouse, and printer.
  • Occasionally moves event materials, donor collateral, or supplies weighing up to 20 pounds within the facility or to off-site event locations.
  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment. Requires the ability to work a standard Monday through Friday schedule, with the flexibility to attend occasional evening or weekend fundraising events or community engagements.
