Volunteer Spotlight: Katie C.

Apr 21, 2022

Katie C. was originally from Michigan but moved away to attend university in California and then Arizona, where she earned her degree in Marketing and International Business.

Her husband's job has given them the opportunity to relocate and live in different places, including Mexico City, Chicago, Kansas City, France, New Zealand, and finally, Boca Raton in June 2020.

Katie was an administrative volunteer at a homeless shelter in Kansas City, so when she moved to Boca Raton, she was looking for a similar volunteer role.

She started volunteering with our Development team in October 2020 and helps with mailings, research, updating database information, and fundraising events. Most recently, she's been an asset in helping our Development Manager Karen Swedenborg with preparations for our MONOPOLY® Event & Casino Night.

"Volunteering is an important part of my life as a way to give back to my community and make my life have meaning," said Katie. "I enjoy being around other people who have the same values towards wanting to help others and giving back, which I see in the BHH staff and other volunteers each week."

In addition to her volunteer work with BHH, you can also find her giving back to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center every week. She helps with preparing food for animals and takes care of a few exhibits.

We thank Katie for her invaluable support and are grateful for her compassionate spirit!
