Volunteer Spotlight: Greg S.

Apr 19, 2022

Greg S. is a former New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania resident but has frequently visited Florida throughout his childhood. So when it came time to retire, he and his wife Claire permanently moved to South Florida to enjoy the weather and indulge in outdoor pastimes.

After retiring from a 40-year career as a funeral home owner and director, he wanted to fill his time with community service. As a Vietnam Veteran, he was drawn to volunteering at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach. He was able to use his experience and knowledge to aid widows and widowers after their loved ones passed.

Greg’s wife, Claire, began volunteering in our warehouse shortly after moving to our beautiful Sunshine State. She transferred to our Pantry Bag Distribution in Boynton Beach and encouraged Greg to join her.

He’s been part of the BHH Family for the past five years and volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Boynton Beach. He helps greet clients and loads pantry bags of groceries into their vehicles.

Greg says he feels a great sense of camaraderie and adds, “Our volunteer group has become a second family of sorts.”

In addition, he has a special connection to our clients, and it’s the little things like talking to them, making them smile, and their appreciation that fulfills him.

We thank Greg for his wonderful spirit of giving and his fantastic work in serving our Boynton Beach community.
