Volunteer Spotlight: D'Andrea D.

Apr 21, 2022

D'Andrea D. was born and raised in West Palm Beach and is proud to call South Florida home. D'Andrea has two adult children and six grandchildren. In addition to volunteering, she enjoys spending time with her church community, couponing, and bargaining in her free time.

She was a caregiver for children and elderly patients in her professional career. Even though she is retired now, she feels there is no better way to spend her free time than helping others. So while browsing for volunteer opportunities, she came across an online post requesting volunteers for a satellite Pantry Bag Program in Delray Beach. She stepped up to the plate and was at the first distribution in October 2021.

Since then, D'Andrea has volunteered regularly and helps set up, greet, check-in clients and answer questions. She thoroughly enjoys interacting with clients and seeing the impact firsthand.

"From the children who wave to us from the back seats to the parents and grandparents who remind us how much they appreciate what we do."

In addition to positive client interactions, she feels a special connection to her fellow volunteers. She says, "It's like we've known each other all our lives. We work together like a well-oiled machine to ensure each client is served in a timely and efficient manner."

Her inspiration to volunteer stems from caring for her best friend during the initial final stage of her life. This experience helped her realize what was important, and she felt a calling to give back to our community.

"People need each other. It can be tough asking for help, but I feel blessed to be a part of the solution to combat hunger."

We thank D'Andrea for her service and are inspired by her compassion to aid our neighbors in need.
