Boca Raton Fire Chief Tom Woods Delivers 72 Turkeys to Boca Helping Hands!

Thank you to Boca Raton’s Fire Chief, Tom Woods, for delivering 72 turkeys donated by The 100 Club, a group of local business leaders.  With over 600 individuals and families receiving a Turkey or a Turkey and a basket, Boca Helping Hands appreciates the help from our community.  We thank the Fire Department for their continued support of BHH and the people we serve.

Boca Helping Hands had their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at their own Remillard Family Resource Center on Sunday, Novmeber 13, 2011

Sunday Evening, November 13th was a magical starry night.  Boca Helping Hands had their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at their own Remillard Family Resource Center.  The outside was decorated with twinkle lights and the black and white theme tables, decorated with candles and stars.  The stars were decorated by Thursday night’s youth activity center and children from the families having dinner at BHH.  Imagine That, a do it yourself ceramic company, took them back to their business and fired them.

Walgreens came to give a shot in the arm to individuals at Boca Helping Hands

Walgreens came to Boca Helping Hands on Thursday, October 21st where fourty Clients received flu  shots.  Walgreens will be returning on Tuesday November 15th from 11:00-1:00pm.  The Walgreens Flu Shots are for individuals 18 and older.   Walgreens has been a great supporter of Boca Helping Hands with participation in our Family Night Dinners, Food Drives at their stores and help with flu shots.  We all appreciate their support of BHH and the people we serve!

Roberta Valmond Nominee for Junior League of Boca Raton Woman Volunteer of the Year Award

The 24th Annual Boca Raton's Junior League Woman Volunteer of the Year Award luncheon was attended by Boca Helping Hands staff, Gary Peters, Board President, Anne Jaakkola, Barbara Kestenbaum, Roberta Valmond and her husband and brother.


On Tuesday, September 27th the Boca Helping Hands Team, James S. Gavrilos, Executive Director; Karen Swedenborg, Development Manager and Greg Peters, Development; attended a check presentation at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.  They were presented with a $5,000 grant check.  The photo was taken by the lake and fountain in front of Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Sun Capital Partners, Inc. supports Boca Helping Hands to Fight Poverty and Hunger

On Wednesday, September 21st, the co-CEOs of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. (“Sun Capital Partners”), Marc Leder and Rodger Krouse, and senior management from Sun Capital Partners presented a check for $50,000 to Boca Helping Hands. This is the second major donation that Sun Capital Partners has made to support Boca Helping Hands’ efforts to fight hunger and poverty in South Florida, bringing their total two-year contribution to $150,000. The check presentation took place at 11:45 A.M., during the daily lunch service. Boca Helping Hands 5th Annual Bowling for Bread & Food Drive was filled with laughter, fun, food and music.  There were 26 lanes sponsored by local businesses and individuals for children from FAMILY PROMISE, FLORENCE FULLER, THE HAVEN, PROPEL, People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership, and SALVATION ARMY.  We had 16 teams participate in the bowling tournament.

Boca Helping Hands Picnic with a Purpose Great FUN!

Volunteers, Staff and friends of Boca Helping Hands had a wonderful afternoon at Sugar Sand Park on Saturday, August 14th.  The rain held and we had a great turnout.  People brought great dishes and desserts to share.  Our Master Chef, James Gavrilos, grilled hot dogs and Greek chicken for the group.

Volunteer Spotlight: Adam Wilk

Monday through Saturday, visitors to Boca Helping Hands can’t help but notice (or be run over by) a young man, clad in a blue apron, notepad in hand.  Since September of 2010, Adam Wilk has been a mainstay in the warehouse…serving as the “link” between the warehouse and the food center. He moves out items for distribution through the Pantry Program, sets up the bags for delivery to the Youth Activity Center on Thursday Nights, and picks up commodities

Greg Peters, Graduate: Leadership Boca Class of 2011

One of our stellar volunteers, Greg has devoted his time to Grant Research. Spending hours on the internet pouring though financial statements and past giving histories, Greg identifies those foundations and corporations most likely to support the mission of Boca Helping Hands. His outstanding vetting process has resulted in our receiving some 75% of the grants for which we apply!

Boca Helping Hands is pleased to have had Home Depot’s participation at their Thursday Night Family Dinner on June 2, 2011.

Seven to eight Home Depot’s staff will volunteers helped the children that attended this Thursday Night Family Dinner, to construct a project kit, through their Kids Workshop program, donated by Home Depot. They chose a toolbox for each of the kids to make.  This event taught the children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety. They will not only leave, Boca Helping Hands

Teach a Man to Fish...

Over the first weekend in June, Lucas and his friends donated eighty-two pounds of fish to Boca Helping Hands. "I hope they feed many people.  Fish is a high-protein source, and I believe very beneficial to people who do not have adequate food supply", said Lucas.

Boca West Foundation Sponsors Boca Helping Hands Friday Lunch Service

Boca West Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) foundation established in 2010.  Their mission is to identify and fund projects designed to strengthen, build and improve the lives of individuals, groups, and families in the community of Boca Raton and the South Palm Beach County area.  They are funded by their members and other corporate institutions and individuals.

Jamie Zipper's Mitzvah Project, BHH Food Drive, total so far...1133 pounds!

Jamie Zipper is having her Bat Mitzvah next week and for her  Mitzvah Project, BHH Food Drive, she has brought in 1133 pounds of food.  She gave a letter to her neighbors with a yellow bag with the BHH logo on the bag.  Jamie enlisted a few of her friends to help.  "I couldn't have done it without them."  said Jamie.  The Dr. and Mrs. Zipper joined Jamie and one of her helpers to unload all of these items from their cars.  They helped weight them and put them into the sorting bins.

Stamp Out Hunger 2011 Boca Helping Hands receives 14,836 Pounds of Canned Goods!!

All across America, the U.S. Post Office dedicated Saturday, May 14 to "stamp out hunger" by collecting canned goods as each postal worker completed his/her route.  Locally, the Boca Raton Post Office designated Boca Helping Hands (as well as Salvation Army and the Wayne Barton Study Center) as recipients.
