The entire staff of GoSection8 spent the afternoon of May 17th sorting goods at our local food bank, Boca Helping Hands. Our t-shirts say it all: "We Serve With Passion."
During Whole Foods Market team member appreciation week, there are various events to celebrate our team members. One of them was a sandwich event and team members donated a canned food and received a free lunch prepared by Chef Abby. The canned food was donated to Boca Helping Hands with a total of 149 cans! A whole shopping cart full.
Each year, the Florence Fuller Child Development Center recognizes men in our community who have devoted themselves to service and philanthropy. Charities throughout Boca Raton and beyond nominate worthy candidates who are honored at the Men with Caring Hearts annual luncheon. From these worthy nominees, a committee has the unenviable task of selecting ONE to honor as the Awardee.
Ava Smith is a Kindergarten student from Mrs. Erickson's class at Boca Christian School. She is a member of FUMC and has a baby sister, Amelia, 2 years old, that she helps mom with.
Boca Helping Hands held its 6th Annual MONOPOLY Event & Casino Night March 3, 2012 at the beautiful Via Mizner Golf and Country Club located at 6200 Boca Del Mar Drive in Boca Raton (viamiznergcc.com). Another successful event was realized with Boca Helping Hands raising over $120,000! Fun was had by all with the fast paced tournament style Monopoly, classics Casino Gaming including, Roulette, and Black Jack. Live music performed by the ever popular Ott, Ott and Hull, cocktails and dinner. Additionally an amazing silent and live auction took place. Live items included a ride on the Good Year Blimp; VIP treatment at a Boston Red Sox Game; Sheriff for a day; and a stay in Key West! Keith Nassetta won this years MONOPOLY Tournament for the 2nd time in a row and the 3rd time since MONOPOLY was introduced as an event at BHH.

Thank you to Boca Raton’s Fire Chief, Tom Woods, for delivering 72 turkeys donated by The 100 Club, a group of local business leaders. With over 600 individuals and families receiving a Turkey or a Turkey and a basket, Boca Helping Hands appreciates the help from our community. Sunday Evening, November 13th was a magical starry night. Boca Helping Hands had their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at their own Remillard Family Resource Center. The outside was decorated with twinkle lights and the black and white theme tables, decorated with candles and stars. The stars were decorated by Thursday night’s youth activity center and children from the families having dinner at BHH. Imagine That, a do it yourself ceramic company, took them back to their business and fired them.
Walgreens came to Boca Helping Hands on Thursday, October 21st where fourty Clients received flu shots. Walgreens will be returning on Tuesday November 15th from 11:00-1:00pm. The Walgreens Flu Shots are for individuals 18 and older. Walgreens has been a great supporter of Boca Helping Hands with participation in our Family Night Dinners, Food Drives at their stores and help with flu shots. We all appreciate their support of BHH and the people we serve!
The 24th Annual Boca Raton's Junior League Woman Volunteer of the Year Award luncheon was attended by Boca Helping Hands staff, Gary Peters, Board President, Anne Jaakkola, Barbara Kestenbaum, Roberta Valmond and her husband and brother.
On Tuesday, September 27th the Boca Helping Hands Team, James S. Gavrilos, Executive Director; Karen Swedenborg, Development Manager and Greg Peters, Development; attended a check presentation at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. They were presented with a $5,000 grant check. The photo was taken by the lake and fountain in front of Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

On Wednesday, September 21st, the co-CEOs of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. (“Sun Capital Partners”), Marc Leder and Rodger Krouse, and senior management from Sun Capital Partners presented a check for $50,000 to Boca Helping Hands. This is the second major donation that Sun Capital Partners has made to support Boca Helping Hands’ efforts to fight hunger and poverty in South Florida, bringing their total two-year contribution to $150,000. The check presentation took place at 11:45 A.M., during the daily lunch service. Boca Helping Hands 5th Annual Bowling for Bread & Food Drive was filled with laughter, fun, food and music. There were 26 lanes sponsored by local businesses and individuals for children from FAMILY PROMISE, FLORENCE FULLER, THE HAVEN, PROPEL, People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership, and SALVATION ARMY. We had 16 teams participate in the bowling tournament.
A big thank you to Michael DeLuca who asked his friends to bring a donation to Boca Helping Hands to his 13th birthday party rather than a gift. This is a great example of philanthropy already in this young persons life. Thank you for supporting Boca Helping Hands and the people we serve!
