Boca Helping Hands Launches Strategic Plan

Embracing our Past…

…Reaching for the Future

 One year ago, I began my new role as Executive Director of Boca Helping Hands.   As I reflect on this past year, I am so very grateful for the support of our extended Boca Helping Hands family.  Without the support of our Board, Staff, Volunteers, Donors, and Stakeholders, we would not be able to fulfill our mission.

As our economy continues to sputter, more and more families are facing decisions once thought unimaginable.    Each month, many families must choose to purchase either food or medicines…pay rent or the utility bill.  When a family comes to Boca Helping Hands to have its water restored, I am simply struck by the incongruity of a family in the United States of America in 2011…not having access to water!  The following table illustrates the skyrocketing demand for our services:

As I begin my second year of service, I am pleased to share with you Phase One of our Five Year Strategic Plan:  Embracing our Past…Reaching for the Future!  This plan is the culmination of months of work, and involved the input of hundreds of volunteers, Board Members, staff, donors and community leaders.       I believe it sets a bold course for the future, while remaining true to our core values.

 On Tuesday Night, June 14th, we launched our Strategic Plan in front of a capacity crowd in our Food Center.  Long time volunteers, staff, community leaders, Board Members and representatives from the Boca Raton City Council were all present for the presentation.  The response can only be summed up as overwhelming.  In the words of one long-time volunteer: “Barbara and I were crying at the end. We are so proud to be a part of BHH.”

 I hope that as you study the Strategic Plan at your convenience, you will see that your past support of Boca Helping Hands has been used wisely and prudently. I also believe that you will have every confidence, as we do, that in spite of our tremendous record of community service, the best days of Boca Helping Hands are yet to come!
