WPEC News Ch.12 Does Story on Boca Helping Hands and Lucas Metropulos

July 26, 2011

Fishing 4 Families in Need

On Monday, July 25th, our guests were treated to a special treat for lunch.  Lukas Metropulos, no stranger to the BHH family and his crew from Fishing 4 Families in Need donated over 100 pounds of fresh fish to Boca Helping Hands!  Lukas began his involvement with BHH a few years ago, as he began forming his non-profit organization.  While teaching water and fishing conservation, Lukas would teach young children from low income families how to fish…thus instilling a skill they could use for the rest of their lives to provide food for themselves and their families.  The famous quote that adorns the entry to the Remillard Center (“Give a man a fish and he eats for a day…teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.”) has found its expression in Lukas Metropulos and Fishing 4 Families in Need.

On Sunday, July 24th, Lukas and his team were at the docks in Riviera Beach as the participants from a two day fishing tournament were returning to weigh their catch.  From 6:00 A.M. (yes….that’s 6:00 in the morning!!!!), Lukas and friends greeted each returning boat and offered to clean and fillet their catch…IF…they were willing to donate said catch to Boca Helping Hands!  By 5:00 in the afternoon, the team had received donations of over 100 pounds of fish.

The story was so compelling, WPEC-12 (CBS in West Palm Beach) sent a camera crew out to Boca Helping Hands on Monday to film lunch.  For the second time in less than five days, BHH was featured on the evening news casts!
