Office Depot Foundation 2016 Back-to-School Celebration

On July 26th our Executive Director, James Gavrilos, joined other
non-profits at Office Depot Foundation 2016 Back-to-School
Celebration. Boca Helping Hands was given 1,500 backpacks
from Mary Wong and Office Depot Foundation to use in our
BHH Backpacks program.  This program reaches 1,500
elementary students in 10 local schools.

Boca Helping Hands is excited about this donation as we
prepare for the new school year.  Each of these backpacks
represents a child that would otherwise go hunger over the weekend.
For 35 weeks of the academic school year these backpacks will be loaded up with 6 meals, 2 snacks and
2 juice boxes so that children have something to eat between Friday’s lunch and Monday’s breakfast.

We have a wonderful team that works together to make sure each child receives their backpacks.  The
Junior League of Boca Raton has committed to preparing the pallets with the food needed for each school.
Our team of drives loads up the trucks and delivers to the schools on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Each week
a local religious or civic group has committed to going to the school and pack the backpacks with this food
for the weekend.  The school's custodial staff and teachers than make sure the children receive their bags
with anonymity.
