Boca Helping Hands Reaches a New Milestone, 1,000,000 Pounds of Food Recovered!

At 9:15 am, a crowd gathered at the Boca Helping Hands Remillard Family Resource Center's loading dock.  As the clock struck 9:30am, Whole Foods, Matt Pleskovic-Communty Relations, and Capital Grille, Alev Ersoy- General Manager, brought in the final 19 pounds of food required to reach the 1,000,000 th pound of food recovered.  Arthur Remillard, Jr. and Gary Peters did the honor of unveiling a banner showing the 1,000,000 pounds.  Balloons dropped from the ceiling as applause erupted from the crowd plus tears of joy.  The group of donors, volunteers, staff, contributors, and press enjoyed a light  continental breakfast in Boca Helping Hands Food Center.

Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey to help those less fortunate in our community.

 Food Recovery

v  Each year America produces 539,000,000,000 pounds of food

v  We throw out HALF of that (270,000,000,000 pounds of food)

v  Fully HALF of that (135,000,000,000 pounds) is recoverable.

v  Based on statistics and population, Palm Beach County throws out 169,000,000 pounds of recoverable food each year.

v  With 105 places in PBC that serve food or distribute pantry bags, if we just recovered what is already being thrown out, each soup kitchen/pantry would have an additional 1,600,000 pounds of food to distribute each year.

Through your generosity we have served 35,921 meals this year from January to September and we have distributed 30,842 pantry bags to qualified families and individuals.
