Dave Freudenberg. Still, it was heartening when 5-year-old Maren Saunders came in with $79 for BHH that she raised by selling lemonade at the downtown Boca Raton “Meet Me” festival.
“She wanted to help people less fortunate who needed help,” said her mother, Rachel Saunders. “We are very proud of her. I hope she never changes.”
After hearing about Boca Helping Hands in her Girl Scout Daisy meeting last November, Maren decided that she wanted to help others “like those who don’t always have food for dinner.”
So she decided to set up a lemonade stand at the end of Royal Palm Place during the recent “Meet Me” Arts and Crafts Festival.
Little Maren made $79 – and turned it all over to Boca Helping Hands.
“I am always so pleased to see that children in our area understand that when we have abundance in our lives, we should be willing to give help to others,” said Linda Gove, executive director of Boca Helping Hands. “Maren and her family are wonderful examples of this.”
Boca Helping Hands serves families in crisis with a food program and limited financial assistance. It operates a soup kitchen for the needy and provides take-home meals for families and sandwiches for an after-school program.
BHH also focuses on job mentoring and job placement to help people break the cycle of dependence on social services. For information, call 561-417-0913 or visit www.bocahelpinghands.org.
