In concert
with the Schmidt Family Foundation, the Boca Raton Junior
League directs the Spirit of Giving Network, with annual
holiday gift, summer camp kits and school supplies drives.
The program serves most of the major local not-for-profit
agencies and involves countless generous donors from all
areas of our community. The program, launched in 2001 by
philanthropist Barbara Schmidt, recognizes the need for
coordination among local agencies to best serve children in
need with a personalized approach to gift giving. Today,
Spirit of Giving serves more than 1500 children in programs
including: Boca Raton Housing Authority (CATS Program), Boys
& Girls Club of Boca Raton, Boca Helping Hands Children
Assistance Program, Children’s Place at Homesafe (South)
Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, In The Pines,
Kids @ Home, Boca Raton Police Athletic League, PROPEL, The
Haven, YMCA of Boca Raton, Youth Activities Center. Generous
donors made each child’s holiday truly special in 2005 by
purchasing the items on their personalized ornaments – one
for clothing and another for toys and games – or making a
cash donation. Volunteers from the Junior League of Boca
Raton, led by Susan Davis, prepared and decorate the
ornaments, which were distributed throughout the community
for individuals, corporations and community groups to
fulfill.
